  • Ireland 1845-1849
  • Yeah, i'm hungry
  • Bye Mother, stay safe
  • I'll be alright, you can leave. Go to NZ, you will be safe there.
  • We're really sorry we don't have any either, that's why we are migrating
  • Please help us, we don't have food.
  • In this picture an Irish man tells his brother that they might have to migrate to a different country because a fungal diesease has infected their staple food: the potato
  • All of Ireland's crops must be infected.
  • Omg, there are so many people
  • A challenge: The mother of these brothers has to let them go as they can not travel fare for the whole family.
  • Yeah, i'm sure they are doing fine.
  • While walking to the ship the brothers saw people begging for food, they now realized just how bad this potato disease was.
  • I'm so happy we went to NZ, we have lot's of food and a nice house.
  • Yeah me too, I am also happy that our parents are okay.
  • Down at the beach where they were waiting for a ship they saw lot's of people and only then knew that this disease was spread through the whole of Ireland.
  • Inside of the ship the conditions were very cramped and the food they served was pretty bad. They also started stressing about their parents.
  • The food on this ship is terrible, do you think our parents are fine?
  • In New Zealand the boys were taken to a nice house where they got lot's of food. They also received a letter from there parents saying they were doing well and they were going to come to NZ.
