  • Justinian was born to a peasant family in 482 C.E. However, he was adopted by his Uncle Justin who became emperor in 518 C.E.
  • In 527, Justin Passed away and Justinian became the new emperor. He then went on to marrying Theodora who was a courtesan.
  • Justinian creates a law code called the Corpus Juris Civilis. This helped to improve the rights of many people including women.
  • In 532, 2 chariot racing factions turned against Justinian and began revolting. He nearly left by ship, however Theodora convinced him to stay and he put down the rebellion.
  • Justinian greatly expanded his empire during his life. He was hoping to someday return Rome to it's former glory by reconquering the land.
  • Justinian died in 565 and he was succeeded by Justin II. His body was kept in the Church of the Holy Apostles.
