- Before, schools were taught by men who were not trained to be teachers. The wealthy sent their kids to private schools.
- So, Horace Mann called for better school systems.
- Now, all kids have an education that is free with professional teachers.
- The mentally insane were seen as ill or possessed and were put into public asylums.
- Dorothea Dix worked hard for asylum reform, traveling and documenting poor treatment of the ill.
- Today, there are less asylums and more prison reform with prison doctors as well.
