Asking to go to the city contributes to the conflict because they go to the city and that is when all of the arguing starts between Gatsby and Tom, Tom starts drinking and Gatsby gets very angry. Gatsby blows up and grabs Tom, screaming in his face

The eyes of T.J. Eckleburg watch all of this as more conflict starts in the area as well as the fact the eyes represent God and they are the eyes of God, so he sees everything.

Gatsby and Tom arguing this contributes to the conflict because Gatsby thinks that Daisy is all his and that she never loved Tom, but she did love Tom at one point. Tom is angry that Gatsby is stealing daisy
