  • China Under the Power of the Ming Dynasty China became the dominant power of Asia under the Ming Dynasty.  In recognition of China's power, Vassal states from Korea to Southeast Asia paid their MIng overlords regular tribute which is a payment from one country to another to acknowledge its submission.
  • The Rise of the Ming A peasant's son, Hongwu, commanded the rebel army that drove the Mongol's out of China in 1368.He began reforms designated to restore agricultural lands devastated by war, erase all of the traces of the Mongol past, and promote Chinas power and prosperity. He encouraged fish, farming, and growing commercial crops like cotton and sugar cane. He conducted purges of the government, that killed thousands of officials.
  • The Voyages of Zheng A Chinese Muslim Zheng led all 7 voyages. His voyages ranged from Southeast Asia to eastern Africa. He used 40-300 ships in each expedition. They were fighting ships, storage vessels, and "treasure" ships. Sailors, soldiers, carpenters, interpreters, accountants, doctors, and religious leaders were on the voyages. They distributed silver and silk to Chinese superiority.
  • Trade Through Chinese Government Goods that went out of the China included silk, porcelain, and other valuable goods. Silk making and ceramics grew rapidly. There were two reasons China wasn't highly industrialized: the idea of commerce offended China's Confucian beliefs.  Chinese economic policies traditionally favored agriculture.
  • The Qing Dynasty The Manchus seized Beijing. They became the Qing dynasty and ruled for more than 260 expanding China's borders.
  • Korea Under the Manchus The Manchus conquered Korea and made it a vassal state. Korea organized their own government based on Confucian principles. The Manchu invasion provoked strong feelings of nationalism for Korean people.
