In the short story "Thank you Ma'am, Mrs. Washington Jones takes Roger to her home. She tells him to wash up. The water could symbolize how Roger changes his "views". The water washes away his need to steal to obtain what he wants.
In The short story "Thank you Ma'am" the purse represented greed. When Roger wanted blue suede shoes he could not afford them with his own money. So when he saw that purse the greed he had became worse until he stole the purse.
In the short story "Thank you Ma'am, the door represents a choice. He chooses to either he could walk out Scott-free. Or he could stay and learn his lesson.
