On January 27, 1756 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg Austria.
Mozart's father Leopold was a musician. He played many instruments but was most famous for Violin.
At just 3 years old Mozart started playing the Violin. Throughout his childhood he composed several songs and performed on street corners.
By age 12 The Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II commissioned Mozart to write the opera La Finta Semplice. He was a musical prodigy that played for the kings and queens. Other composers were furious to be competing with such a young boy.
Mozart was very poor during his life and taught music lessons for money. He produced over 600 works but, his contributions were hardly acknowledged until after his death. Before Mozart, music was purely created for religious worship or dancing in higher classes. Mozart created music with dark sounds that were filled with ideas of the time period. His most famous idea was the "Mozart theory" - the theory that classical music makes the brain work better.
