  • The Boston Massacre March 5, 1770
  • The Quartering Act started as the British thought that the colonists should help to pay for the army.  Then, in 1765, a law called the Quartering Act was passed by the British Parliament.  The Quartering Act ordered colonists to provide "quarters" for the British soldiers.
  • The Boston Tea Party
  • Britain needed money to pay it's debts.  They needed to pay for soldiers still in America.  They thought that colonists should help pay for the troops.
  • Intolerable Acts
  • The Boston Massacre - There suddenly was a huge crowd gathering.  They called soldiers names, and they threw stones.  It erupted into violence.  They taunted the soldiers.
  • A huge crowd!!
  •  Parliament passed Tea Act in 1773.  The act said that the British India Company was the only company that could sell tea to the colonies.  It lowered the cost of tea.  As a result, they dumped 90,000 pounds of loose tea into the water.
  • The Tea Act -  The Tea Act said that only the British India Company was the only company permitted to make tea.
  • Parliament decided to punish the colonists by passing new laws.  They were called Intolerable Acts.  One closed the Boston Harbor.  Leaders from 12 colonies gathered in Philadelphia to talk about the problems with Britain.
