Storyboard Text

  • Today, we will be learning about elements, molecules, and compounds.
  • An element is a substance that is composed by a single type of atom. A type of atom is Carbon (C). You can identify an element if it has only one capital letter.
  • Does anyone know what an element is? If so, can you give an example?
  • A compound is a pure substance made up of two or more different elements. An example is Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3). You can identify a compound by seeing if there is more than one capital letter.
  • Very good, can anyone define a compound?
  • A molecule is a group of 2 or more atoms held together by chemical bonds. An example of a molecule as an element is oxygen. An example of a molecule as a compound is carbon dioxide. N2 is an element, and NH3 is a compound.
  • Wonderful. Does anyone know what a molecule is?
  • I'm already out of here.
  • Fantastic, well that is all for today, class is dismissed.
  • Same here
  • Finally..
