  • Please sir
  • Leave, you are not aloud to trade here... European!
  • (In chinese)
  • Ha, found something they like
  • This is worth trading for right here
  • That is a lot of boxes
  • In the 1700's Europeans wanted to expand the trade even further to china, But the Chinese were hostile,  and didn't have a need or interest for the European products. For this reason, there was to be no trade and or communication in China; including entering or exiting.
  • Sign here, here, oh and there
  • Since Europeans could not trade because of the emperor's lack of interest they gave them opium to trade. This substance is used to make many drugs, ease pain etc. . But people get addicted which caused concern to the emperor for his people.
  • TOOOOO MMMUUUCCHHH !!
  • Don't forget to sign mine
  • The emperor, took act and confiscated 20,000 boxes of opium. And man were those Europeans mad. this caused the first opium war. And on July 7, 1839 European and Chinese opium ship rioted and killed a man on Kowloon. This started a string of events that eventually escalated and lead to the defeat of China, who had to surrender to stiff conditions.
  • Why did you have to end before i did.
  • And so, China and Europeans signed what is known as the the treaty of Nanking, and also the first unequal treaty. That means that, because the Chinese were defeated; they were to pay for the war, give up the island of Hong Kong etc.
  • After the Europeans did this , the Americans, and other countries started making treaty's of there own seeing the weakness of Qing,  but also started trying to spread Christianity in china. Which didn't go over to well.  Qing captured and executed a french missionary under Chinese laws, Starting the second opium war, which China lost again.
  • Eventually China had to agree to an even harder treaty, which came together a little while after this, also, it marked the end of the Qing dynasty.
