Hamilton was a Federalist while Jefferson was a Republican so they had many different opinions. Hamilton believed in a strong national government while Jefferson had believed in strong state governments. Although they did have different opinions eventually they worked things out.
The citizens of Western Pennsylvania attacked the home of a regional tax collector to rebel against the new whiskey tax. Farmers were very upset about this tax because they needed whiskey to help keep their crops fresh. George Washington eventually stopped the rebellions and kept the taxes.
Alien and Sedition Acts
John Adams was a vice President with Washington then later served as America's second President. One of his greatest accomplishments was to help negotiate the treaty of Paris which officially ended hostilities between America and Britain.
The XYZ affair was something that was going on with Britain and France, America's allies. Some said to honor the treaty with France and support them but others wanted America to support the British. In the end, America remained Neutral and by doing this they avoided a costly war.
The Alien and Sedition acts were a series of laws passed by Congress that made it harder for an immigrant to become a citizen. It also allowed the President to deport or imprison non-U.S citizens who were deemed dangerous.
