In the beginning, it begins with a kind man named Rip Van Winkle. He loves his neighbors, his children, and his wife. He can be kind, but he is lazy. He doesn't fix the fences, or any parts of his barn.
Rip Van Winkle goes for a walk with his dog, Wolf, and go fishing. Then he started to head home. While he was heading home, he heard someone call his name. He saw a little man carrying a barrel, and he helped him.
Rip reached into the highest part of the Catskill Mountains. He found a group of little men playing ninepins. He watched them play. He then drank the liquor in the barrel. Then he drank a few more times, then he feel into a deep sleep.
This scene shows Rip Van Winkle feeling shocked about how he woke up. He noticed that some things have changed. He tried to look for Wolf, but couldn't find him. He also went back to his home to find his children and his wife, but his house was down and untaken care of.
As he returned to his home village, he didn't recognize anyone. He noticed that the buildings look different, and he couldn't find his friends. He asked if anyone knew him. Then a woman came up to him and reconized who he was.
In the end, Rip Van Winkle found his daughter and were back together. Her daughter told Rip that her mom died ten years ago and she was ill. She also had a child named after him. An old man came and recognized Rip. He was recognized to be the man who was gone for 20 years. Then his story got told to many people.
