Anthony’s two best friends were 16 year old Lebron Appleseed, and 17 year old Magic Johnson. They had been the closest friends ever since the 6th grade when they met each other on their middle school football team. In fact, Lebron was now the top wide receiver on Anthony’s team in high school.
They did their homework together, helped Anthony practice his violin in whatever ways they could, and they helped him win the starting quarterback position on the JV team by practicing with him every free moment they had.
Yo Lebron, how much time I got left?”
15 minutes and 49 seconds.
Anthony knew he had just gotten in the zone and just closed out the test strong, just like what he was taught in football in late-game situations and two-minute drills.
Last year when Anthony’s parents had been out of town numerous times for work, Anthony often struggled with managing his schedule of sports, orchestra, and homework without the support of his parents. Luckily for him his friends did a better job his parents ever could have in helping him get back on the wagon.
I AM LITERALLY THE MOST STUPID GUY ALIVE! THERE'S NO WAY I'M GOING TO THE TEST TOMORROW!
He knew the whole friendship had revolved around Anthony’s life, and Anthony’s problems, and Anthony’s goals. The SAT was the new obstacle that he faced, and wanted his friends support for yet again. On the day before the test they had all met up in the library.
YOU'LL BE FINE JUST GO SHOW UP AND DO WHAT YOU CAN DO, THAT'S ALL THAT THEY'RE TESTING.
WE'RE BROTHERS AND WE PASS AND FAIL TOGETHER, AND RIGHT NOW IM TELLING YOU WE'RE NOT FAILING THIS TEST.
“Ok, ok I can do this I only got 10 questions left, and I know all this content”, stated Anthony speaking his thoughts out loud. “I just have to spend about one and half minute per each remaining question.” “Stop thinking like that! Just finish whatever you can, as fast as you can in these last 15 minutes. Finish out strong.”, asserted Pablo. “You’re right. I gotta finish out strong.”, said Anthony. He worked through all the problems with a calm mind, and finished them with ease just a few seconds before the time limit.
"You're right I'm sorry. I love you guys."
FAMILY IS STRENGTH. LEBRON AND MAGIC ARE MY FAMILY.
Later that night, Anthony had decided to do one more practice test before tomorrow morning. He wanted to assure himself that he had this in the bag. However, that is not exactly what happened.
“Show up? For what? So I can just fail?”, retorted Anthony. “Just remember everything we taught you. Remember the hard work you had to put in. No, actually the hard work we put in." said Lebron.
“We love you too bro. Now go get some rest, and ace this test tomorrow morning!”, said Magic trying to hype Anthony up. Anthony knew at that moment that those guys were his strength. He knew those guys were his family. He knew his family was his strength. Assertiveness. Support. Love. That is why he would pass this test, not just because of some A’s he got in his previous math classes. Family is strength.
