- This is Prince Akeem, he is a character from the movie Coming To America. Right now he is practicing self defense with his staff.
- Akeem is working very hard and needs to be able to keep getting oxygen. His body uses a process called cellular respiration.
- In this Process, Akeem takes in glucose and oxygen from the air and uses it for energy in his body. Here is the equation:C6 H12 O6 + O2 -> CO2 +H20 +ATP EnergyThe mitochondria is an organelle in Akeem's cells that converts these molecules into energy

- However, sometimes Akeem doesn't have enough oxygen or ATP in his muscles. This causes his body to go through the process of lactic acid fermentation. This is when his body produces small amounts of ATP and lactic acid is the product that causes your muscles to burn.

- In order for Akeem to get oxygen, we need plants to produced it. Luckily he is next to my favorite autotroph, an acacia.

- Plants produce oxygen through a process called photosynthesis. The plant gets light energy from the sun as well as carbon dioxide and water, and converts it into glucose and oxygen in the Chloroplasts.
- The equation for photosynthesis is:CO2 + H2O + Light -> C6 H12 O6 + O2
