Storyboard Text

  • 1492 Christopher Columbis, an Italian explorer for Spain, landed in the America. He was looking for a faster and safer route to Asia.
  • 1519 Alvarez Pineda set out from Jamaica to map the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, he became the first European to observe the Texas coast. His men got arrested by Cortes because he saw them as a threat.
  • 1519 Hernan Cortes was sent to Mexico and the Aztecs viewed his and his men as Gods because of their horses, firearms, and metal armor. The Aztecs possessed wealth in gold and silver and Cortes sent the gold and silver to Spain and made Spain very wealthy.
  • 1528 Cabeza de Vaca and several men shipwrecked on Galveston Island and the Karankawa's gave them food and shelter. Cabeza de Vaca and some of his men traveled across Texas from tribe to tribe as a medicine man. He finally made his way to Mexico. As he traveled he told stories of Cibola, the fabled city of gold.
  • 1540 Coronado and more than 1000 men went in search for Cibola the city of gold. They did not find it instead they found the Grand Canyon, the Pacific Ocean, and explored all the way into Kansas. They ended never finding Cibola the city of gold.
  • 1685 La Salle establishes Fort St. Louis at Matagorda bay. He ended up running out of supplies and most of the colonist suffered from hunger, disease, and the Karankawa. La Salle ended up dying by his own men while going to Canada
