Aww..it's raining outside. What are we going to do now?
The Water Cycle
It's okay. How about we learn about the water cycle?
Rain or water falling from the sky is called precipitation. Any form of water falling from the shy is precipitation.
Where does it go?
The water that doesn't get absorbed in the soil is called runoff. Runoff often runs into rivers or lakes.
What about the absorbed water?
The water that is absorbed is called percolation. The water in plants goes through a process called transpiration. Transpiration is when the plant releases water vapor into the atmosphere.
Where does that vapor go?
The sun heats up water and it turns into water vapor. This is called evaporation. The water vapor rises higher into the atmosphere.
Cool. Now what's the last step?
The water vapor cools down and condenses into clouds. This is called condensation. Then, the cycle repeats itself.
Great! Now I know about the water cycle! But..what spheres are these in?
