"Mollie, I have something very serious to say to you. This morning I saw you standing on the hedge that divides us from Foxwood. Did you allow Mr Pilkington's men to stroke your nose?"
"He didn't! I wasn't! It isn't true!"
Mollie took off on her heels and galloped away into the field.
The pigeons reported back to the farm that Mollie was seen being stroked on the nose by a fat red-faced man that looked like a publican. She wore scarlet ribbon and she was newly clipped. She seemed to be enjoying herself. None of the animals spoke of her again.
