  • The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor out of nowhere and the U.S. suffered a lot of lose. This is the beginning of the Japanese internment.
  • NO JAPS ALLOWED
  • AMERICANS ONLY
  • A lot of the ships were damaged and many of the ship sunk as a result of the attack. A total of 15 ships were either sunken or badly damaged.
  • Over 2,000 Americans died in the attack of Pearl Harbor. They were not ready for of the attack because they thought it was a drill.
  • After the attack, the United States citizens treated the Japanese as they did to African Americans. They segregated them from everything from stores to restaurants.
  • President Roosevelt made Executive order 9066 in 1942. The order allowed any state government or official to ban Japanese citizens from certain areas and also to put them into camps to contain them. 
  • In the camps, the living conditions were not ideal. They would cram large families into small rooms with a couple of beds for the whole family.
