Storyboard Text

  • “and I was silly enough to pay the full Amontillado price without consulting you in the matter. You were not to be found, and I was fearful of losing a bargain.” - Montresor
  • “and I was silly enough to pay the full Amontillado price without consulting you in the matter. You were not to be found, and I was fearful of losing a bargain.” - Montresor
  • Situational irony: "The man wore motley"; F. is dressed as a fool M. sees him as.
  • “we will go back; your health is precious. You are rich, respected, admired, beloved; you are happy as once I was. You are a man to be missed.
  • Montresor approaches, already influenced by alcohol, Fortunato as he tells him that he has the Amontillado (wine).
  • 50 YEARS LATER...
  • Fortunato agrees to come to see the Amontillado barrels in the catacombs because he takes pride in his wine tasting and knows how valuable Amontillado is.
  • Verbal Irony: While in the catacombs, the nitre is effecting Fortunato by making him cough nonstop but he doesn't know how deadly the nitre is. Montresor actually knows how deadly the nitre is but acts "worried" so Fortuanto doesn't suspect anything.
  • Although they arrive at the wine, Fortunato is drunk so Montresor decides to take action for revenge and locks up Fortunato in chains inside of a wall.
  • After half a century, Montresor reveals the revenge and crime he committed to an unknown source.
