  • Mt Vesuvius has erupted more than 50 times but its most famous eruption was in 79 A.D 
  • The first warning signs were when a thick layer of ash started erupting from the volcano. Soon after rocks and lava started pouring over the city of Pompeii
  • Boiling lava and rocks came crashing down and began to destroy the houses and the cities.
  •  Then a thick layer of ash came down into the air and making it difficult to breathe, this was suffocating a lot of people and they died almost instantly 
  • Next, a stream of molten rock and hot poisonous gases started pouring down the mountain swallowing everyone and everything in its path
  • By the time the volcano had finished erupting the city of Pompeii was destroyed and covered in a thick layer of ash
