Great Britain moves the Guiana-Venezuela Border farther into Venezuela, taking 30,000 square miles.
You have no right to expand!
You've taken enough of our land, you ruthless Brits!
Leave the Schomburgk Line where it is!
The boundary commission concludes that the border belongs on the Schomburgk Line. This left Venezuela disappointed, Great Britain not quite happy and established the US as a world power.
Why America! We trusted you to help us Venezuelans...not those dirty Brits.
I, the President, successfully appointed a border commission! The Monroe Doctrine allowed me to, so thanks doctrine!
Could've ended worse for us Brits I guess.
This wasn't the first time the US had gotten involved with Latin America...
Time Jump to 1845!
The US annexed Texas in 1845. Texas had previously been a part of Mexico, but when Texans and American settlers became an independent Republic of Texas the United States made Texas its 28th state.
Texas now belongs to the United States of America, not Mexico!
All thanks to the Monroe Doctrine, which allowed us to get involved with Latin American countries like Mexico without Great Britain getting involved!
The US and Mexico disagreed where the southern border to Texas should be. This in part led to the Mexican American War.
The Texas border is at the Nueces River!
Texas' southern border is at the Rio Grande!
The war established the Rio Grande as the border to Texas and therefore the US's victory. Along with Texas, the US took California, New Mexico, Arizona, and parts of Nevada, Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.
We won! And we took more states along with Texas! Including California!
