The Spanish Inquisition was a civil and a religious court. It was set up to see if the Jews and Muslims who had converted to Roman Catholicism were true Roman Catholics. And soon after that it was judging any citizen that was accused of not following the Roman catholic faith. If any were found guilty the punishment could be torture, dungeons or death. If the person was only accused, they would be forbidden from holding public office and would have their property confiscated.
