  • Cuba desidied to burn all of the American's sugar cane to try to get the U.S. to help them fight off Spain. They also used yellow journalism to make the americans feel sorry for them.

  • The U.S.S. Maine was a ship placed by President Mckinley at the Havana harbor to protect America. One day, the ship blows up. No one knows who did it, but the Americans believe that it was Spain.
  • Treaty of Paris
  • We're FREE!!!!
  • President McKinley made a truce with Cuba, and he decided to help Cuba gain their independence. He also wanted the Philippines as a navel bace
  • Territory that the U.S. Gained
  • Even after the list of four demands, Spain still will not give Cuba independence, so McKinley asked Congress to go to war with Spain on April 11, 1898.
  • Spain granted Cuba's independence in the Treaty of Paris in December of 1898. This also gave the U.S. more territory.
  • From this war, the U.S. got the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and the Pacific Island of Guam. Now, America doesn't own the Philippines.
