Treaty of Paris
President McKinley made a truce with Cuba, and he decided to help Cuba gain their independence. He also wanted the Philippines as a navel bace
Territory that the U.S. Gained
Even after the list of four demands, Spain still will not give Cuba independence, so McKinley asked Congress to go to war with Spain on April 11, 1898.
Spain granted Cuba's independence in the Treaty of Paris in December of 1898. This also gave the U.S. more territory.
From this war, the U.S. got the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and the Pacific Island of Guam. Now, America doesn't own the Philippines.
