The Bush vs. Gore election was decided by the U.S supreme court because of so many recounts. Florida got millions of votes not counted. Due to that the U.S supreme court had to decide who wins.
The democratic party wanted to keep recounting because they thought that Florida's votes were not being counted. The republican party thought that they have counted to many times and it was just time to call it.
The supreme court ruled that the Florida Supreme Court's decision, saying they need a statewide recount, violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
