Buck was sold. He and two other dogs were taken up North to Alaska to become sled dogs.

Curly, one of it's poor victims, perished from it.
Being a quick learner, Buck soon adapted to this harsh life.
Embracing this primitive life, it was as if he had never been civilized.
After a while, he became content with it. He was more now stronger, smarter, less naive. Besides, it's not he can go back to his former life
