Mrs. Wang Needs to Hide From War
" I can't run, she remarked. I haven't run in seventy years, since before my feet were bound." (pg. 20)
Mrs. Wang Must Think quick
"Well, Little Pig and his wife - they would wonder about her- but they would never dreamof this. it would make a good story- she would've enjoyed telling it." (pg. 28)
Little Pig tells Mrs. Wang about the war in the middle of the night. Mrs. Wag did not understand that fact that the Japanese were attacking and wasn't educated on these types of situations.
Mrs. Wang is not able to run from the war because her feet were bound over the years. She tells Little Pig's wife to go on without her. The reason she did this was because Mrs. Wang wanted the family name to keep going and Little Pig's wife was pregnant.
Mrs. Wang made a sacrifice for the sake of her village and family. Mrs. Wang opened the dike so the river would flood and drown a large part of the Japanese army.
