Storyboard Text

  • Our trip will start from up here at the crust.
  • Hey, my name is James.  I will be your tour guide for our trip through the Earth!
  • This first layer of the earth is called the crust.  We live on this layer, which you probably already know.
  • The crust is the first layer in the Earth's makeup. The layers go crust, mantle, core. But to be more specific it goes Lithosphere, Asthenosphere, Mesosphere, Outer Core, Inner Core.
  • This is also the crust, its the thinnest layer of earth, it can range from 5 - 100km thick.
  • Even though it is so thin scientists still haven't been able to dig through it yet because the earth's heat is too much.
  • The lithosphere is just a little bigger than the crust, because the lithosphere  contains a little mantle.
  • The lithosphere is made up of two parts of the earth, the crust and the mantle.  It is the layer the tectonic plates move on also.
  • The next layer below is the mantle, it contains the lithosphere, Asthenosphere, and Mesosphere.
  • The mantle is the biggest layer of earth. It is two Thirds of the earth's mass.  The mantle is a malleable plastic consistency.
  • The next layer is in the mantle, it is called the Asthenosphere. It is right below the lithosphere.
  • The Asthenosphere is the plastic layer of the mantle. It is made of solid rock that flows very slowly.
