  • 3. Daisy sides with Tom
  • On the most heated day in the summer, Nick goes over to have lunch with the Buchanan's. Jordan and Gatsby were there when they arrived. During this lunch, Daisy and Gatsby are vary transparent with their feelings for each other.
  • 4. Tom sends Daisy home with Gatsby
  • Tom starts the argument by mocking Gatsby. Gatsby tells Tom that Daisy never loved him and tries to get Daisy to say it. As the heated argument continues, Daisy sees Gatsby in a different, less romantic way. Tom also claims that Gatsby gets his money from illegal activities.
  • 5. Myrtle Dies and Gatsby takes the blame.
  • After witnessing that horrid argument between Tom and Gatsby, Daisy doesn't feel as warm towards Gatsby because he basically forced her to say she didn't love her husband, in front of her husband. Daisy also has some internal conflict because of her social class, and the fact that with Tom, she has old money and a daughter, but with Gatsby there is excitement and curiosity. She ultimately chooses Tom.
  • 6. Gatsby tries to watch over Daisy but finds her with Tom.
  • After sensing that he already won the argument, Tom leaves Daisy and Tom together so Daisy has no choice but to go home with Gatsby. This is beneficial in Tom's mind, because he thinks she will realize how bad Gatsby is for her.
  • Gatsby lets Daisy drive his car home and when they drive through the Valley of Ashes, they pass by Wilson and Myrtle's house. Daisy is a careless driver so she doesn't follow rules of the road. Myrtle sees a car with bright lights thinking that it's Tom, so she runs out in front of the car and gets hit, causing her death. Gatsby takes the blame because he loves daisy and he feels guilty.
  • While Gatsby tries to watch over Daisy to make sure she is safe at home after the accident, he finds her eating cold chicken with Tom at the dinner table together. In the end of this argument, Daisy and Tom are together and Gatsby is left alone. Gatsby pushed Daisy away when he forced her to say that she didn't love Tom in front of him.
