a disturbing short story that is truly great to read
Everyone except for a few towns folk show to the drawing of names, but after a short while the kids gather rocks and put them in a pile for after the ceremony then the men meet there kids to talk about things like work, houses and other tasks and jobs, and after they meet with there wives to begin the drawing
Mr summers bings back the black drawing box that has been used since the towns beginning to pick the tablets of wood but since the towns population grew to 300 they have been using slips of paper instead. anyways Mr. summers starts drawing names out of the black box
Mr.Summers starts calling the last names of the towns people until there are no more so everyone has a "ticket" after everyone finishes drawing notes they are required to open them, if they acquire the note with the Black dot than they win/lose
After the drawing everyone opens the note in hope to be safe but no one states that they have "the Mark" and after thinking they speculate that the holder of this card is Tessie
so Bill Hutchinson (the husband of Tessie) went over to his wife and forced the slip of paper out of her grasp and opened the paper... It was the Black dot that mr.Summers had made the night before with the dark pencil, this means the Tessie loses/wins.
After the town finds out that Tessie is the one with the black dot they all head over to the pile of stones the kids had made earlier that day, consisting of big smooth rocks to small pebbles, all the kids got small pebbles and adults had gotten large stones to throw, and as Tessie tried to reason with them but screamed as they were already "upon her"
