Storyboard Text

  • Good afternoon!  After reviewing our School Assessment Audit, we determined that our school does not have a balanced assessment system.
  • We noticed that the assessments given in 1st and 2nd grades do not meet all users' needs.
  • Grades 3-5 have standards-based benchmark and common assessments to guide their instruction.  However, 1st and 2nd grades do not give these assessments.
  • The benchmark assessments in 1st and 2nd grades only assess students' basic reading and math fact fluency.
  • Student mastery of standards is not assessed, and learning gaps occur.
  • However, we know that they assess students within their curriculum, and administrators closely monitor this process.
  • I completely agree, but the data is not useful to teachers in grades 3-5, because the assessments are not closely aligned to the standards.
  • As a veteran second grade teacher, I feel that I constantly and effectively assess my students.
  • The assessments need to be more streamlined throughout all grade levels and address the mastery of standards, not just the curriculum.
  • Teachers and administrators need to create standard-aligned assessments to determine standard mastery for 1st and 2nd grades.
  • As the principal, I would like to hear your suggestions.
  • This will ensure that learning gaps are detected and addressed earlier for struggling learners.
  • Ladies, we should have completed an assessment audit years ago.  I appreciate you bringing this unbalance to my attention.  We will work to address the issues.
  • I understand how these changes could bring balance to our assessment system.
