Storyboard Text

  • "Okonkwo was not a cruel man. But his whole life was dominated by fear, the fear of failure and of weakness."
  • This shows how lots of actions that Okonkwo does are influenced by his fear of looking weak. As well as it dominates his entire life.
  • Grr, I hate everything cause I'm extremely insecure
  • Ikemefuna lacks understanding of what's happing and as such is scared. Okonkwo also fears for Ikemefunas life.
  • "As for the boy himself, he was terribly afraid. He could not understand what was happening to him or what he had done... All he knew was that a few men had arrived at their house, conversing with his father in low tones."
  • The Oracle says we should kill him
  • When Okonkwo heard that he would not eat any food he came into the hut with a big stick in his hand and stood over him while he swallowed his yams, trembling. A few moments later he went behind the hut and began to vomit painfully.
  • Because Ikemefuna fears what will happen to him, he does what he doesent want to do. Because of this he throws up.
  • Due to Okonkwos fear of looking weak. He is unable to show affection to his daughter
  • Okonkwo was specially fond of Ezinma. She looked very much like her mother, who was once the village beauty. But his fondness only showed on very rare occasions.
  • Grr, angry, Grr
  • Ikemefuna shakes out of fear of what will happen to him. He can tell Okonkwo is scared to because Okonkwo moved to the back of the group something he wouldn't normally do.
  • Ikemefuna looked back, and the man growled at him to go on and not stand looking back. The way he said it sent cold fear down Ikemefuna’s back. His hands trembled vaguely on the black pot he carried. Why had Okonkwo withdrawn to the rear? Ikemefuna felt his legs melting under him. And he was afraid to look back.
  • Don't look back
  • But Ekwefi did not hear these consolations. She stood for a while, and then, all of a sudden, made up her mind. She hurried through Okonkwo’s hut and went outside. “Where are you going?” he asked.
  • Where are you going?
  • Ekwefi fearing for what could happen to her only daughter, defies the gods and goes after her. She never would have done this if it weren't for her fear.
