- Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America. Lincoln heavily opposed the idea of slavery and bought that idea into office. Lincoln was also a republican.
- Transportation Advantage

- Ulysses S. Grant served as commanding general of the Union Army. Grant was able to lead the army to victory over the Confederacy.
- Advantages
- The military strategy used for the civil war was called the "Anaconda Plan" The purpose of this plan was to barricade the south, cut off their transportation, and get ahold of their capital.
- Financial Advantage

- The North had an advantage with its transportation. The north had 72% of the nation's railroad tracks. This allowed better communication, better transportation of troops and faster trades.
- This is the biggest advantage the north had. Its industries. 90% of the nations industries and factories were located in the north. This sprouted from the creation of the Lowell Mills. These factories helped supply clothing, weaponry, and boots.
