DPN happened at Gallaudet college in Washington DC in 1988. The board of trustees chose a hearing president over 2 qualified deaf finalists for a deaf school and students were up set, this was the 7th hearing president for the school. Protesters shut down the campus and many were arrested and pt in jail.

Laurent Clerc was born December 26th, 1785. He was born in a small village near Lyons, FranceClerc was born hearing but went deaf after an accident. He was important to the deaf community because he held found America's first school for the deaf.

Helen Keller was born June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. At the age of 2 she went blind from illness. Keller was a co founder of the American civil liberties Union and many deaf people looked up to her. She was both deaf and blind. Sadly in 1968 she died in her sleep.
