  • This shows the ranching on the bottom with the cows and sheep. The homesteading is at the top and notice how it has good landscaping People Used these animals for different needs such as wool from the sheep. They also go Milk from the cows 
  • Harvey Houses 
  •  This was the first railroad company to build tracks into New Mexico. More than 3,000 miles were built across New Mexico from 1880-1915. As a result more jobs came to the West Nation. These trains brought equipment and other needs to parts of New Mexico 
  • Tourism
  •  Explorers have been searching for gold since the 1540s. Most of the explorers found little gold. Gold mining  increased with the arrival of more miners. The first gold struck did not happen till the 1830s
  • Wild West
  • Many people traveling through New Mexico liked to stop  at these Harvey Houses. They provide food and a luxury place to eat. They also have Harvey houses that are hotels which are also very comfortable to sleep in. 
  • Many tourists came from the railroad to visit different spots in New Mexico . Other tourists came to learn about southwestern Culture.  They enjoyed the beauty of the land and the warmth of the climate.
  • The wild west was filled with outlaws. Many terrible things happened here such as gun points crime and law offenses. Life was often very dangerous and you had to be careful where you step. Violence was committed by one outlaw and sometimes a big group of outlaws
