  • Herbert Hoover:President during the beginning of the Great Depression. He believed in rugged individualism and laissez-faire capitalism.
  • Farm Overproduction:One of the root causes of the Depression. Farmers made to many products and the prices fell to levels that did not allow them to make a profit.

  • Overspeculation on stocks:Many people borrowed money that they could not repay when stock markets crashed, causing extreme debt.
  • Hoovervilles:Depression shantytowns, named after the president whom many blamed for their financial distress.
  • Black Tuesday:October 29,1929; date of the worst stock market crash in American history and teh begining of the Great Depression.
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt:32nd US President - He began New Deal programs to help the nations out with the great depression, and he was the nation's leader during most of WW11.
