  • 1. Go immediately at the end of every school hours each day to the annex. 2. Go immediately to your dwelling at the conclusion of training hours. 3. From this moment on you are exempted from rules governing rudeness. 4. Do not discuss your training with any member. 5. No dream-telling. 6. You cant have medicine unless for illness or injury.  7. You are not permitted for release.

  • What is Jonas' assignment?  Jonas was assigned to be the receiver of memories from the giver who was the receiver before him. 
  • Wow! Sunshine feels so good!
  • This must be a sled and snow!
  • OW! IT HURTS!
  • What are the rules for Jonas' training? 1. Go immediately at the end of every school hours each day to the annex. 2. Go immediately to your dwelling at the conclusion of training hours. 3. From this moment on you are exempted from rules governing rudeness. 4. Do not discuss your training with any member. 5. No dream-telling. 6. You cant have medicine unless for illness or injury.  7. You are not permitted for release. 
  • Quit crying you dumb kids.
  • How is the Givers home different than all of the other homes in the community? - The givers home has furniture that was fancy and curved and none of the other houses had that. The givers house also had the walls lined with books and the other houses in the community only had three books in it. 
  • What are the memories the Giver transmits on the first day? The first memory the giver gives Jonas is the memory of snow and sledding. The second memory he gives him is sunshine and after that, he gave him the first pain he experienced which was sunburn.
  • Why is the community not allowed to make decisions - People can suffer in situations that the community would just release them for. People might also pick to be married to the right person or pick a job they wont like. 
  • What is seeing beyond? Seeing beyond is seeing what nobody else can see in the community like color and being able to receive memories from the giver.
