Come to my party, Paris. You will be able to see Juliet
I would like to marry Juliet. Even though she is 13, I believe she is old enough to be a wife.
The Montague and the Capulet households engage in a street brawl. Price Escalus is able to break up the fight, but only by threatening to kill whoever breaks the peace of the streets.
Act 1 Scene 4
I can't read. Can you tell me who is on this list to invite? OH also: If you are not a Montague, please come to the Capulet party!
Romeo is depressed and upset at love. He has professed his love to Rosaline, who has determined she will stay single forever. Romeo discusses the hardships of love with his cousin Benvolio.
Act 1 Scene 5
Capulet and Paris meet. He is interested in marrying Juliet. Capulet invites him to the party and gives a list of others to the servant to invite. The problem with giving the servant the list is, the servant can not read and must rely on a stranger's help.
The Capulet servant, not being able to read, relies on the help of a stranger. That stranger happens to be Romeo. Benvolio tells Romeo that they should sneak into the party. Benvolio believes the best way for Romeo to get over Rosaline is to find another girl.
Romeo sees Juliet at the party and walks over to her. Without introducing himself, they begin to kiss and fall in love.
