  • 1492-Christopher Columbus, An Italian explorer for Spain, Landed in the Americas. He was looking for faster and safer route to Asia.
  • 1519- Pineda. Set out from Jamaica to map the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.Mapped the Texas coast. First European to observe the Texas coast. Some of his men were arrested by Cortes, who saw them as a threat.
  • 1519- Heran Cortes. Viewed as gods from Aztecs because of gear. Overthrew Aztecs, and gained land. Aztecs possessed gold and silver, wich was sent back to Spain to make them very rich.  
  • 1528- Cabeza De Vaca. The Karankawas helped them. Together they traveled Texas tribe to tribe. Vaca lived as a medicine man. In 1836 they arrived in Mexico, and shared fake stories about the Cibola, a fabled city of gold.
  • 1540- Franciso Cornado. Went in search for the golden city. Never found it, but found Grand Canyon and Pacific Ocean. Explored all the way to present-day Kansas.
  • 1648- La Salle. Established colony at Mississippi River, before arriving at Matagorda Bay. Built a fort. They didn't get along with Indians, and faced problems with drought and disease. While he was gone, they attacked the fort. They left for Canada, and along the way La Salle got killed by his own men. Very few survived.
