  • When the war began I Andrew Jackson was a military man.I had never led a troop into combat before. When war finally broke out I did not hesitate to lead 2,500 troops under my command.

  • As Jackson became a national hero, he received the nickname of “Old Hickory”, including thanks from Congress, and a gold medal. His troops gave him the nickname by saying that he was “as tough as old hickory wood” on the battlefield.

  • Andrew Jackson wins president. Jackson won the majority of votes in 1824. He was up against John Quincy Adams. Andrew Jackson got a total of 178 votes while Quincy only had 83 votes. Jackson's running mate was John Calhoun.

  • Since Andrew Jackson won the election we must give his political party their reward of government jobs
  • The spoils system was a practice where after a political party wins an election their supporters get rewarded with government jobs. This system opened tons of government jobs for many of Jackson's supporters but Andrew Jackson did not originate the system.

  • In 1828, Congress passed a law raising the tariffs on imported goods. This idea was to encourage the growth of manufacturing United States. Higher taxes means higher prices for the imported goods which allowed American manufacturers to outsell their foreign competitors.
  • Why don’t we raise the tariffs?! This way we would have higher taxes and be ahead of our foreign competitors.
