At the beginning of the story, Huck lives with Ms. Watson and the widow. In an attempt to civilize him and keep him away from his drunk father Pap, Huck runs away.
Huck runs into Jim
At Pap's home, Huck is locked inside and beaten. One day when Pap heads into town, Huck saw's through the wall and kills a pig to use the blood to create a murder scene in the house so he can escape and begin his journey.
An alliance is formed
Upon his escape word spreads quick by the help of Pap that Huck has been murdered and the town begins looking for his alleged killer and his body. The town soon rumors that either Jim or Pap killed Huck because both suddenly disappear.
Jim and Huck form a plan
Huck sees Jim on an island they were both on while on the run and Jim first believed he was a ghost because he had heard the news that Huck was killed.
Huck agrees to not turn in Jim although he doesn't want to aide in the "theft of Ms. Watson's property.
Huck and Jim have a brilliant idea to only travel during the night so that the likely hood of them being caught is a bit dimmer.
