Nathaniel Hawthorne, the author of the scarlet has a very complicated diction. This helps his didactic tone throughout the scarlet letter. The main antagonist is Hester and Hawthorne reveals through Hester that happiness can be harnessed though one's perseverance and not of many. Expressing that only looking deeper into the words will you find the true meaning.
