  • G'day mate! In Australia we're one big island located between the Indian and South Pacific Oceans. Australia is bio-diverse having many different habitats even if its mostly desert. Australia is a low desert plateau.
  • Hey, did you know Australia's climate is mostly arid to semi-arid.
  • Droughts are common though so we better be ready.
  • During the 1600s -1800s, Dutch, Spanish, French, and Portuguese explorers visited there. For many years, Australia was called a prison colony because convicts were sent there.
  • But some of the climate in the North is tropical. I'm so glad it's December, even if it's super hot!!
  • The first people in Australia were called aboriginals, Australia was colonized by British but they weren't the first Europeans there.
  • Australia's economy relies on exports of its natural resources. Coal, iron, and gold are leading exports.
  • We migrated here 50,000 years ago when sea levels were lower
  • The first colonists didn't go by choice. Europeans sent 160,000 convicts to the island.
  • Us aboriginals were introduced to unknown diseases and violence which reduced our population. 
  • When Australia was colonized, British settlers built homes and farms kicking us aboriginals out. We had to settle in places the Brits didn't want!
  • The British introduced invasive species like me but we reproduced and weren't kept under control.
  • Australia was colonized by the British but we weren't the first people here.

  • Also, the GDP per capita is 54,286.29 USD in 2017.
  • Tourism continues to be an important industry. Over 5 million people visit Australia a year.
