  • People in the reformation had many complaints about the catholic church in the 16th century, there was a practice called selling indulgences which was the strongest cause of rejection. This was in the Wittenberg church.

  • The 95 theses by Martin Luther is an argumentation on the the power of indulgences written in 1517.
  • In January 1521, Pope Leo X excommunicated Luther. Three months later, Luther was called to defend his beliefs before Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Worms, where he was famously daring. For his refusal to contradict his writings, the emperor declared him an outlaw and a heretic.
