  • Theodora was a part of low social class, so Justinian had to the law changed to marry her. Together, they formed an unstoppable team who shared power as nearly equal co-ruler.
  • Theodora became Justinian's wife after he changed the law to marry her.  Theodore even saved Justinian's crown in 532. Following these events, Justinian decided to rule more carefully in the future.
  • Constantinople is a capital city. You had to like people to enjoy living in Constantinople. The people consumed grain imported from Egypt and water piped in form more than 70 miles away. 
  • Christianity in the East and the West developed differently, causing arguments and finally a split. Every Saturday afternoon Christianity churchs would be fulled with lots of people.
  • On May 29, 1453, the last Byzantine emperor died fighting as his enemies swarmed through his capital's shattered walls. The days, the Byzantine Empire ended. 
  • After Justinian, the empire experienced invasions and another golden age before it finally collapsed. After the died in 565 the debts the emperor had taken out to pay for his many wars nearly bankrupted the empire.
