The main way that Johnny affects Pony is that Johnny knows how to understand him and he listens to him. The reason this means so much to him is that, with his parents gone, he doesn't really have a person to talk too much. But then Johnny came along and knew how to listen to him and to his problems. This meant a lot to Pony which explains why they were such good friends.
A big struggle for Ponyboy in his everyday life is he no longer has any living parents. This hurts him every day because he only has his friends and his brother to support and help him which hasn't been easy on any of them. plus, with both Johnny and Dally passing it has just made a bad situation even worse. this is very bad for pony especially because even though he doesn't show it he is a very emotional person which makes it worse
The one thing that affects the way Ponyboy acts as a person is the setting or the neighborhood rather. The neighborhood affects Pony in many ways that affect the way he acts because he actually has to look out when walking to or from the movie theater in case of beatings from the socs. he also has to look out for help when a beating does occur. and he has to learn to fight in order to defend himself against the socs in case they really do want to hurt him.
