  • In Normandy Philip was attacking Richard's land with the mindset that he wouldn't be freed. After he was freed and Philip found out John gave him Normandy.
  • Richard was being held captive after trespassing on some of the Duke of Austria's land. For this, he was put on a castle on a rocky slope where he would have to have a ransom paid for.
  • John saw an opportunity to seize control of England so promised to give Philip some land back in France if he was helped to become king.

  • Even though not many people believed that Richard was alive 100,000 Marx was raised in agreement that Leopold let Richard go. The money was raised for this by making the tax a demanding 25%.

  • On February 4th 1194 Richard was released so Henry told Philip and John that if they didn't restore the lands to how they were before he would help Richard as much as possible
