Storyboard Text

  • Hey, do you know what the difference between meiosis and mitosis
  • Yes, there are many differences between the two, let me show you.
  • The biggest difference between meiosis and mitosis is their purposes,  mitosis makes cells for growth and repair (body cells), and meiosis makes cells for reproduction (sperm/egg cells).
  • So if you trip and cut your leg, your body will make new skin cells.Would that be an example of mitosis or meiosis?
  • Meiosis cells have 23 chromosomes because thats they combine with another cell, that also contains 23 chromosomes to equal 46 total. But  mitosis cells do not combine with any other cell so they have 46 chromosomes all by themselves.
  • Mitosis,  because it is repairing the cut.
  • that's right !
  • Are there any other differences between meosis and mitosis?
  • yes, mitosis cells contain 46 chromosomes , but a eiosis cell only contains 23.
  • why does a meiosis cell have less chromosomes?
