She's cured! No more Huntington's!
The Side Effects of Gene Changing
Her Huntington's is cured, but she is not able to speak.
Developed in the University of California, CRISPR, based off Cas9, “acts like a molecular scissors, the bacteria cut out key genes of the viruses and store them, so their immune system recognizes and wards off those viruses every time it encounters them.”
Its main purpose is originally to help cure hereditary diseases by changing genetics. Scientists fear that it may later be used to change someone’s traits to desirable ones.
CRISPR may change something it is not supposed to as well as the gene it was. It may fail entirely, killing the entity. It is still being tested and these are only a couple of broad side effects.
