One of the first things a farmer had to do when starting a farm was build a barn.
All of the family´s had to work on a farm for them to survive.
In addition to helping on the farm during planting and harvesting seasons they spin wool into yarn or flax into thread, tending a garden of the family had a variety of vegetables, and sewing and repairing the family´s clothes.
Children had fun playing outside and swimming. They didn't have a lot of store bought toys so they made their own.
The Native Americans helped the settlers. The frontier people did for fun was held a dance.
Children on the frontier usually attended a one year school house in the winter and summer.
Pioneers use lye, water, and ashes to make soap. A typical work day for kids living on the frontier was getting water, tending the fire, milking the cows, and churning cream.
