I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult.
For his gold I had no desire. It was his eye! A pale blue vulture eye. I decided to take the life of the old man & rid of that eye forever.
Every night at about midnight, I visited his bedroom and used my lantern to check if he was asleep.
I could not kill the old man as he was sleeping. It was his eye that worried me. Not him.
On the eighth night, the old man had heard the slight noise I made and sat up in bed.
I kept quite still and said nothing. For a whole hour I did not move a muscle.
